The Indiana Information Center on the Abolition of Capital Punishment (IICACP) exists to expose the injustice associated with the application of the death penalty in Indiana. IICACP is open to anyone who is opposed to the death penalty.
Michael Lambert was executed on the morning of June 15. It is so senseless and sad, all of it, that two days after Christmas in 1990, he spent the day drinking, upset about his failing marriage and his inability to see his 10-month-old son at Christmas, that he crawled under a car to sleep it off in the middle of that snowy night, that an officer arrested him to take him in to sleep it off in a jail cell, that between that officer and Greg Winters, who drove him to the jail, no one patted him down, that he shot Greg Winters, not in the course of some kind of violent crime but under these circumstances for reasons he can't even remember or imagine, that despite the fact that he has grown up in prison to be such a decent human being our state plans to kill him in our names, and that the Winters family and the Fraternal Order of Police have nursed such white hot anger at him all these years. Such a sad, senseless waste......
